Everybody has all sorts of opinions but I think Isuzus are OK. I presume it is the 6BD1, which is a 5.9L 6cyl., about 1000 lbs. I definitely think with this motor and 36" tires you should have a Dana 60, not a 44 like you probably have now. And if your truck is relatively recent (late 70s or 80s) it may even have a non-full-floater (no freewheeling hubs possible). Even worse. Talking now about diesel swaps, gearing becomes much more critical. This type of motor is governed at about 2800 rpm and is best run at highway speed at 2000-2400 rpm for best economy, longevity and performance. Even 36s run you at 2800 rpm at 60, too fast. If you were doing the diesel right now, I'd suggest either a Ranger overdrive or a 5spd, with precise optimal tire size dependent on usage pattern and overdrive/high gear ratio.
