I've got a factory LU-2 on my '63 W-300, and its support angles (the angles look like they are not quite at 90 degrees) are mounted to the bottom of the frame rails in the back, top of rails in front. This places the input shaft and it's U-joint just below the front cross member, so there are no cuts required. Looks like that is the same way as pictured in the owners manual and the factory service manual, though the pics are not conclusive.
