If you are lucky, the original tag is on the tranny. It is usually a metal tag, stamped with Model number, held in place by two of the bolts on the right PTO opening. Other than that, The case shapes are distinctive, but may carry different ratios, input shafts, cover plates, etc. Casting numbers might help, but you could have two identical trannys, except for number of PTO openings, and have two very different casting numbers.
