Paul,
I believe the M37 came from Dodge equipped with the Budd rims with the lock rings. While I'am sure the bolt-together cocmbat rims found their way to some M37's due to a commonality of some driveline parts, the Army had already abandoned the design by the time the M37 was released. They are part of the WC era, and even the archived photos of M37 prototypes show the Budd wheels in use. The Budds may have already been in use on civilian power wagons, so the transition was a natural one, since the trucks were built side by side on the same line. My last attempt to locate Firestone Duplex wheels showed that they are still available in some localities, but not in the power wagon bolt pattern. I last purchased a pair of these, perhaps ten years ago, in the 70's era 8 bolt pattern, intended for 9.50x16.5 tires. My new 1973 W300 also came equipped with them oddly enough.
