Rich,
Something's out of whack here. There are NO 6 volt M37's. If your truck still has the original systems, it's 24 volt. Speaking from the standpoint of reliability, I can't imagine how yu could build a better system than the military 24 volt. Please take the time to find out which system you have in your truck. If you still have the waterproof distributor, everything else should be 24 volts. There is no civilian equivalent to the military internal coil. The proper coil is widely available from military parts dealers. It is very reliable and gives an extremely hot spark. The distributor can be replaced with a civilian model, bu this also requires a matching civilian oil pump. The shielded sparkplugs can be bought over the counter at any parts store, although they will be expensive. ($6 to $8 per plug) Your starter is probably also 24 volts, if it is still the original. Your truck used two 12 volt batteries connected in series. As far as gauges go, all the panel gauges for the M37 are still available new. There is even an updated alternator with an internal voltage regulator. (any M-series 60 amp will fit) I'd strongly advise keeping your truck 24 volts if possible.
