Sounds like the bearings may be loose. There should be noticeable pre-load. You might drop the shafts and remove the brake band, put the case in neutral, then see how the 4 yokes feel. If they are loose, drop the case, remove the retainers, check the condition of the bearings, and re-install the retainers adjusting for proper pre-load. The 2 rear ones are conical and use washers, and the front are ball and use gaskets to adjust the load. It's not really difficult. I think the hardest part (aside from hanging the case back in the truck) is cleaning the darn thing.
