Valerie, in 1979 the automatic used in the 1/2 is a torque flight 727 without a lock-up converter. The basic tranny will be basically the same for any other 727 with these exceptions: Lock-up or non-lock-up torque converters, big block or small block, and the tail shaft assembly. If your mechanic grabbed a used one from a non-lock up small block application, he should only have to pull off the tail shaft assembly and replace it with your current on. While you're messing around with the tranny, install a remote cooler and deeper oil pan for it. It's les than $100.00 for both and will pay dividends in the future!
