Advance Adapters calls anything the was used before Dodge
switched to transmissions with a 5.125" bearing retainer
and a 1"-23 spline input shaft to be "old"

Someone else will have to inform us of when the switch
was made from the 4.75" bearing retainer with a
1"-10 spline shaft. I think you are safe in assuming
that the trucks on this forum have the "older" setup,
but nothing beats looking.

FWIW: I had to order a few extra Ranger Overdrives with
the Chevy front/Dodge rear in order to get the one I
need for my Cummins repower of my M37 so send me some
email if you want to discuss in detail what it would take
to get it from my garage to a new home in you're 1 ton.
