I'm looking at two cleaned stub shafts from a Dana 44 front axle system. When I pulled these outer axles from the spindles, out fell lots of odd-shaped BB-sized shrapnel which in a better life used to be spindle needle bearings. The races on the stub shaft are somewhat scored; were this a crankshaft with plain bearings a "spun bearing" would be indicated. Will these pieces be okay to reuse? (axles, not bearings) The race surfaces pass the "fingernail micrometer" test OK, but I don't think new axles will pass the "wife/budget micrometer" test.
