I converted an M37 military-type distributor to a breakerless setup with a Pertonix kit. However, it required modifications to the magnet ring and also some new mounting holes in the breaker plate for the pickup unit. It turned out very nice, and it bench tests perfectly, but I haven't actually had it on an engine yet. I added a one-watt resistor (I forget the value) in series with the power wire that supplies the pickup control circuit (NOT the wire to the coil) so that it works with 24V. As to the coil primary wire, I don't think that an ignition resistor will be necessary, even with a 24V system, based on what I've heard about the switching transistor's voltage and current rating. However, I won't guarantee that.
