Count me in as one more vote for the don't do it yourself crowd.

I needed some new ones for a '68 Coronet that I was working on about 20 years ago - had some, but they were the wrong size (too wide). Heated them up and bent them to the right size, and was in the process of bolting them up to the car when the steel fractured.

The heating (and subsequent quenching) had changed the temper of the steel and made them brittle. I thought about trying it again and sticking them in sand to slow the cooling, but thought about the tradeoff in my backyard metallurgy skills versus my life and paid the relatively small $$ to get the right parts.
