I've run both, XL's wear out in 15k mi. I think the XZL's will last longer. There is less road noise with the XZL's. Bandag will recap XL's with a XZL tread.
Tires are really heavy, I do my own tires, many tire shops nowadays wont touch split rims unless they do farm and big truck stuff also. (I was trained on how to do PW tires and given the proper tools to do it by a old tire man with a shop that he had to shut down because of Les Schwab moving in.).
Balencing is done with "balencing powder" so I'm told by John Eickhoff. I've never balenced a 1100-16 because I never drive over 35 MPH (registered) and they still ride pretty smooth.
The truck really struggles with power because the tires are so big and heavy.
If you are looking for a smooth ride and more road speed, I'd reccomend STA superlugs and 4.89 gears. Have a tire shop balence them properly.
