OT painting

OK all you body worker/ painter types I got a problem. Painted enamal color coat Sat, laid out and masked (1/4" masking tape) on Sun. I painted last night (Tues) daytime temps never got over 80. in the garage so never sat in the sun. Tape peeled off easy but left the adhesive behind. Looks like crap. I tried mineral spirits, paint thinner, ispropyl ahcohol, denatured alcohol, bug and tar remover, laquer thinner, non-acetone fingernail polish remover, and goo-gone all to no avail except removing the paint along with the adhesive. Any other ideas? I need to clear coat over but it is so rough it won't look right. Other than that I'm fairly happy with my first attempt at flames.
