If you go V8 you must put disk brakes on. The old drums can not handle stopping from 60 or above. You may get one stop out of them but the second stop they will fade so badly that it will scare you to death. The brakes were not made for high speeds and the weight of the truck. The axles have no problems with 60 MPH.
