The 3/4 ton carriers of both 8 3/4 and 9 5/8 varieties have larger axle splines. To use the 8 3/4 4.89's (1/2 ton), put them on a 3/4 carrier or change the side gears in the 1/2 ton. Small carriers have 3/8 studs, large 7/16. A 1943 housing is most desirable if you want a removable rear cover. Later 44-45 are welded like PW and M37.
