It may be, but they wanted a diesel, to eliminate the two fuel Pod fiascos. All military rigs run on "multifuel" now, you can fill up your helicopter and your Humvee, side by side. See my post below about how the Humvee could have been better if AMC had not sold them before the buyout.
Like everything AMC, it was a great concept, poorly executed. Arrival and departure angles are better than the M37, more cargo weight capacity and the M37 has NO armor. Our M37's are no match for what the Humvee can do, but each had it's place.
