Just putting a fitting in the top the compression would go back and forth out of the tank and never build up any pressure. You would need a one way valve to only allow the air to go one direction. Having the fitting that sucks air in on the down stroke and sealing on the up stroke stops the vacumme from pulling in the gas air mixture thru the carb manifold and the spark plug is removed taking away the spark. I don't think I would want the explosion of fuel/air mixure to put out the air pressure and if you allowed the pressure to go into the tank it would not get enought compression to fire off the fuel right cause when the spark happened the pressure and fuel mixure would be in the tire or tank and there is a posible cross over flame explosion into the tank/tire since it would be a explosive mixure in the tank with oxegen and gas mixed together.
