The UP runs the Challenger UP 3985 around. Its much bigger then 844. Todays rail is much bigger and better then the old days. There may be some bridge limits on some places and angles of curves in others. Some old steam engines were built to run in certain locations like the Big Boys (1000000lbs - engine). UP 844 is just a run of the mill 4-8-4 engine.

UP 844's combined weight of tender and engine is around 900000lbs. I think the tender wieghs a tad more then then engine and both are like 410000 and 460000. Most of the big new road engines of today are in the 400000 range.
