- I got a supply of 1/4" square rods of zinc from a local plating shop when I was young kid.
- For heat, I used a blow torch and original soldering iron. The copper billet iron must weigh 1 1/2 lbs at least. You could solder for about 5 minutes between reheats. Still have the equipment in the shop.
- The nice thing about using thinned out asphalt for a roof coating is that it oxidizes the surface and washes off with the weather so there is never any buid up to crack and peel, even after years of being recoated.
- The last patch work roofs I've seen were in Viet Nam. They used flattened coffee cans! Don't know where they got solder to piece them together, or maybe they just crimped them together? At any rate, end result was for sure more secure than the thatched roof!
