I haven't heard of anyone mention zinc cloride has a soldering flux in many years. I've always kept a Ball canning jar with muriatic acid and old pieces of zinc dissolving in it for those (un-solderable) situations. I once built a patch quilt shed roof with scrap pieces of tin plate. Used about a quart of flux and about 10 pounds of 50/50 solder. Painted the roof every other year or so with thinned out asphalt. No rust in over thirty five years that I maintained it.
