the fan speen on a L6 Power Wagon is incredibly high. Much higher than average. The fan pulley is very small which results in very high rpms. they do that for bettter cooling at low speeds. So the fan speed at 50 mph is probably the same as a car set up driving 110 mph. I have heard of fans coming apart as well, but, have you looked at a 6 blade PW fan? very well made. there were some low end cars way bak that used spot welded 4 bladers and they were known to break. All American fans have been riveted since a certain date I think back in the forties or fifties.
