I have never stopped at a weigh station in Washington. They are looking for commercial vehicles. They use to have signs saying "No Pick Up Trucks".

The only thing that I am aware of is that when chains are required vehicles over 10,000# must chain up even if they are 4 X 4. 4 X 4s are exempt from chains if they have M&S tires on them unless a State Trooper tells you to put chains on.

Sunday I was in Northern California. Chains were required outside of Susanville with the stipulation that busses and tractor trailers must chain up as do all cars except for 4 x 4s. I went through with my dually and camper (12K #) and no one stopped me and I passed several police. We had close to 70 miles of compact snow on the road. It looked like it dumped about 18" of snow early in the day as it was only snowing occasionally when we went through.
