It was "new" to the trucks, but it had existed since 1959. First as an "RB" (Raised Deck)in 1959 and 1960, (99,568 motors built) and from 1961 to 1971 as a "B" block (low deck) in cars. It was the only "car" motor that Chrysler did not beef up for truck use as the engineering department surmised that it was beefy enough for truck use in it's normal format.
