The big block variety of engines in the truck form did have different heads and the front end of the motor such as water pump housing and the way the radiator hoses go compared to a car. The truck engine may also have different bearings and rods and so forth but the blocks are the same and things could bolt from one to the other.

As an example if I took the truck 440 out of my truck and tried to put it in one of my muscle cars I would have to changed oil pans and pick up tube. I would have to get a car water pump housing and to be able to see the timing marks in the proper location a car timing chain cover. Exhaust manifolds may or may not work in the car due to K frame and torsion bar problems.

We think of small block and big block but Chrysler actually has small block (LA) and big block engines which is 2 different categories B block and RB block. When chevy guys ask me about this I say B is for BIG and RB is for REALLY BIG. But bottom line with the exception of intake manifolds all the outside pieces will bolt up to a B or RB block. Guys are taking 440 cranks and putting them into 400 blocks and building stroker motors.
