In NYS they want vehicles with a GVW of 10,000 lbs. or more to stop. They are mainly interested in commercial (truck- tractors mainly) vehicles.
Duallys with campers/horse trailers/boats and motor home combinations will probably be waved thru.
HOWEVER ---
They are very interested that the tires on your truck, and especially your equipment trailer be rated to meet or exceed the GVW load !!! They don't want to see car spare "doughnuts" on a trailer being used to haul a backhoe for example.
One buisness got dissed because the tires, (from the factory mind you) on his brand new dually was'nt rated for the GVW load by the way !!!
Also, they're very interested that your load is "properly secured" ---- Even the backhoe has to be chained down as well as the backhoe itself. Anything articulating in the center, tractor, skidder, etc. must have the steel bar at the articulation point to "lock" the equipment.
(The above is probably based on prior accidents where the vehicle being towed was'nt properly secured).
The best thing to do when in doubt is to pull in ---
The Statees have a display at the NYS Fair that has parts removed from dead-lined tractor trailers and once you see them your glad they have these checks !!!
