..I'm certainly not going to defend them, but issues need to be put in perspective:
For starters we pay less for fuel now than we did in 1960, when adjusted for inflation.
The oil companies no longer own the fields in Arabia, they are customers just like us and have to compete in the world market against everyone,...and the high bidder wins.
If we drilled in Alaska, built more refineries and drilled off our coasts, we would have a huge domestic, and somewhat protected from world markets, source of fuel.
The oil companies profits ARE huge, but amount to less than 10% of their gross income. I'd be willing to wager that everyone of us here that owns our own business makes MORE than 10% profit, otherwise it's called 'being out of business'. They may have record profits now, but I don't remember anyone crying for them when they had record loses only a few years ago.....
