Exactly right you could run an old combat tire for days and not now that it was flat! The newer type tire is comparably weak vs the old bias tire, the sidewall is flexible and thinner. That may be what the salesman is afraid of....the tire flexing over the ring at low psi and getting pinched between the rim and a rock.
