These 2 Tumbler Drums are for my Daughters new Hide Taning Buisness she started.
The 2- 6 ft Dia 4 ft wide Tumbler Drums are done and the Gear Reduction Transmission is mounted between them. I am waiting for the electric motor and 2 parts for the TB Woods Sure-Flex Couplers to finish coupling the shafts to the Transmission Shafts. Took a long time to line up all the bearings and shafts so there was no difference in alinement on them, nor wobble. All the steel bracing is welded in place and I just need to bolt the motor down, put on the pulleys and belts to make them turn. The solid enclosed one is used for Tumbling the hides with a sawdust/oil mixture which softens and drys/oils the hides. After they are done they go into the drum with the screen to get the excess sawdust out and it will fall thru the screen on the drum. This is the last stage of the process. The hides are Soaked in a chemical vat then De/Fleshed. After that they are hung on a drying rack till they are allmost dry and some what stiff. Then they go in the Drums to soften and finishing. They come out all fluffy and soft and just need combing or brushing out. This was quite the project to get the heavy drums (allmost 700 lbs) up on the braces and lining up the shafts! Did most of the welding in my shop them I braced them in place to line them up and finished the welding. They turn at 20 RPMs off the 3,450 RPM Electric Motor. Mark H.
