Carb re-build unsuccessful

I just installed a Re-build kit into my 49-B1 series B&B Carb. The primer pump was not working and it would not start....once I primed it it would run great.

Now....it doesn't do either very well.
Should I replace this with a more reliable carb or swear-off carb rebuilds forever.
