All this talk about saving fuel I got to do a MPG test on my new Tender yesterday. I drove a 200 mile drive for a inspection and passed it. I ended up getting 9.5 MPG doing 60 mph in the hills and flats empty. Empty is around 25,000 lbs. Now my Chevy 1 ton with the 454 empty but weighing 6,000 lbs gets around 6.5 to 7 mpg! My little Ford Pickup gets 20 miles to the gallon if your real carefull but it weighs only around 3500 lbs. You would think that a vehical that weighs over 4 times the weight of a pick up would not get better MPG. Now a so called new pick up getting only twice the MPG and weighing 7 times less that is bad. If I was to load any one of these to 25,000 lbs they would not even get close to the Tenders milage. When I was loaded to 44,000 lbs I still got 6.9 MPG(better than the Chevy 1 ton empty!) at 60 mph. Kind of makes you wonder why these little trucks can't do better than that being so small? Mark H.
