OT: 1953 m37 questions

my m37 has piping going from the intake to the rear of the engine to what looks like a oil draft tube. there is a valve to open or close this vacume. was this a attempt to replace a orginal valve?
the other question is i don't see any fuel filter. where would the factory filter be?
and does anybody make a rollcage kit for a m37?
