I was up at Dutch Harbor in the early 80's. Yes a lot of the stuff is gone. But if you go up on the hill behind town there was the officers quarters. They were big old red brick buildings in prett good shape. They may have been post war but it was sure funny seeing big old southern style brick homes up there. I will have to look to see if I have some pictures.

At the time I was flying out of Dutch Harbor on helicopters. I was sitting an oil exploration well 120 miles out to sea in the St George basin area. It was not bad being out there on the semisubmersible drilling rig. The helicopter ride was OK. We could see the crabbing boats below and that did not look fun. The drilling rig would move just a little in the waves while the 100" plus supply boat was bounding like a cork. I picked the right ship to be on.
