The latches on my Carryall lined up ok and latched well, until the body was flexed (even a small amount) then the lift gate would come un-latched.

I think it was Maui Dave who suggested adding an over center draw latch on each side of the interior lower gate to assist the stock latch mechanism. The original setup just wasn't built to handle the body flex a 60 year old truck with a popped weld or two is capable of.
