I'm aware of that, but ya have corporate overseers (forgive my lack of spelling) and guidelines they all follow (not just auto dealers). There are exceptions to every rule, but in having dealt with 3 different Auto Nation dealers, they all seem the same, rude, crude and insulting.
I was a corporate hack for several years, and did not like the BS they handed down. My wife worked for a very large international corp, and they sucked when it came to treating their employees with any respect, let alone their customer base. She now works for a different corp, that has done things FOR her and us, that has boggled my feeble mind.
So it all boils down to what the higher ups want to have happen and will allow. Of the corps you mentioned, I have only dealt with Auto Nation, and IMHO, they SUCK! I have dealt with DC, and to me, it seems they have adopted the same policy as Ford, IGNORE the problem and it may go away. ie; the Pinto gas tanks and the Durango ball joints/46 RE transmissions. BTW, to date, DC has only acknowledged 35 ball joint problem vechicles.
