I got the opportunity to ask Jerry Clower about that and a couple of other Ledbettor clan stories. He told me that he first heard Will Rogers tell that story but it was based on an Oklahoma reservation . It was probably an old joke by the time Rogers told it on radio. Still funny though. My personal favorite Jerry Clower story is the one in which Marcel buys his first chainsaw.
