With an ARB you have LESS chance of breaking an axle because you can climb just about anything or any obstacle at 3 mph, driving with ARB lockers is a whole different world.
I've had ARB's in Dodges and Jeeps for over 15 years, I've never broke an axle. It can be done, but that is driver error, not the locker.
