Hi Wyatt!

You'll need the following parts:

Ballest Resister - Standard #RU-10
4 post solenoid - Standard #SS581 (optional)
Universal two post starter switch (optional)

Procedures:

1. Plug the ballest resister in the wire that goes from the ignition switch to the coil. This will reduce the voltage from 12 to around 6-8. A good place to mount it is on the fire wall.

2. Install the 4 post solenoid. One of the two small posts is + and one -. On the negative side post, run a wire to the side of the ballest resister that is going to the coil (you'll then have two wires connected to that side). The purpose of this is to get the full 12 volts for "hot" starting, then revert it back to 6-8 volts when runing.

If your existing solenoid is a single post, you cannot set your system up for a stronger plug spark when starting.

Using the ballest resister requires no upgrade of points, condenser, or coil.

The 6 volt starter will spin faster and stronger, but will work just fine. I've made several conversions and have experienced no problem with 6 volt starters.
