I am alway glad to see another book on Power Wagons and it seems that inthe past couple of years the interest in this subject in the form of books and models has grown sharply. Unfortunately, the quality and accuracy of the resultant product has not been uniform or high. case in point. The 1998 book "Dodge Power Wagon 1940-80 Photo Archive" was in my opinion rushed together and it shows. It is full of inaccurate info; si much so that an insert with corrections was put in my copy! Many of the photos are just snapped while walking around The Power Wagon Rally in Iowa. At 29.95 I'm not impressed by the research. I rate it a C+ at best. Now with models, The one from Danbury Mint (1/25 scale in green) is excellent craftmanship but sorry to say glaring inaccurate in its slope of the hood. Seems that someone got the numbers wrong when it came to caking this model. The minute details on the whole are excellent. Rate this a B would be an A+ if the inaccute hood/grille were fixed. On the other hand the one by First Gear is great considering its scale (1:35) and much lower cost (about $40.00 as compared to over $100 for the danbury model). Now we can't forget Matchbox. They made a nice little (1:48) scale WDX. With the limited size- not bad! too bad it's missing the parking lights. I'd give it an A even without the lights. There we have it. I hope the New PW book is a high quality book-not a rehash of photos which anyone could take. I would really like to see some lengthy text too.
