Lead (actually solder) is by far the best, and was what many of these trucks were finished with originally. I'm still getting proficient with it but when properly done it's almost perfect.
I use high strength 'plastic metal' or the like for stuff I don't want to shift, with a minimum of ordinary filler just for finishing.
