{{I have my 230 CID engine apart and am planning to run detergent oil after reassembly. I read the "Best of the Forum" on detergent and non-detergent oil but didn't see anything in there about Synthetic Oil.}}

If you're honing or boring the cylinders out, use regular oil for at least 3,000 miles. This will let the rings seat properly. Once they are seated, you can go with synthetic. Even the synthetic oil companies will tell you this. Synthetic is too slick and the rings won't seat properly.

Personally, I feel a good detergent oil is just fine. Especially with engines that won't see a lot of road time. If you are putting chromed rings in, never use synthetic as they will burn oil when you do. However, regular rings will do okay after they get properly seated.
