the bell housing mountups didn't change.....but the design of the transfer cases did. The 80's trucks liked those aluminum chain driven 208's and 241's. Haven't ever experienced problems with them but wwhen you started with all gear driven cast iron units from the earlier trucks it's hard to imagine the later would be as strong. Additionally, the later ones are mostly married setups that would change driveshaft lengths and crossmember locations......but bolt up to the motor thay would! They still used a New Process 435 4 sp all the way to the mid to late 80's which are identical to all the 70's 435's with the exception of an intermediate housing eliminating the divorced jackshaft. As for autos....a 727 is a 727, other than the same tailshaft difference. But as long as your package is matched, no problem if you don't mind a little drive shaft swapping and possible crossmember coaxing.
