Your serial no. 83949898 is most definitely a ’56 PW, but a C-3-PW…

May have power steering option - after 83949001 & should have synchromesh tranny - after 83949164.

As a follow-up to your Nov 4 posting regarding C-3-PW vs. C-4-PW designation – I am more convinced than ever there is no C-4-PW designation, just as there is no C-2 designation. I have Dodge original (yellowing pages & all) ’56 & ’57 “MoPar Parts List” and the models go from C-3-whatever to K-6- or K-8-whatever (6 or 8 cyl eng). In addition, the 4 other Dodge truck books I have do not indicate any C-4 models. The “C” & “K” designations were used for ALL trucks & I can’t find a C-4 designation for a PW much less ANY ’56 Dodge truck & I’ve been looking hard for you !!!

I can’t tell you the SOURCE of Joe’s C-4 designation – my opinion is that it is incorrect – it should be C-3. I certainly don’t want to get on Joe’s bad side – this is literally the only discrepancy I have ever seen in all the gigabytes of info Joe maintains – this is by far the most accurate & comprehensive data around. With that said, there could be a MoPar supplement I don’t have, some special equipment designation, maybe a government thing – I just don’t know where the C-4 designation came from & just ‘cause I don’t know doesn’t mean it’s not so.

The “Model PW-126” I think is simply the model code & wheelbase - Power Wagon with a 126 in. wheelbase – which is correct.

If someone knows about the C-4 designation – PLEASE POST !!! Henry & I would like to know for sure.

Cheers, JB
