Your e-mail response is a option that I have seen doon, and it does work. The biggest problem with using a GM axle is that the spring pad spacing is about a half inch narrower than that of your Dodge. The inferior Dodge axles that the letter refers to are the Dodge full-time axle design. Dodge first introduced disc brakes on their trucks at the same time as the use of full-time (1974 for 1/2 tons, 1975 for 3/4 an 1 tons), the brakes are not inferior, but the bearing most certainly are. That is why you should use a 1980 or later Dodge, disc brake use continued but full-time use was ended and standard (better) hub design was used again. You could swap in a complete axle from one of these, but unless it is new you may not know exactly what you are getting, but it would be much easier to perform and also, maybe, more expensive. The choice is certainly up to you.
