There is probably better methods but I'll contribute my experience. I've been working on my 42 WC53 and when disassembling it I put all small bolts/brackets in sealable plastic bags and labeled them as to where they came from. Next, I put a wire wheel on an electric motor and after a stressful day at work I tell my wife I'm going to the garage to "clean my nuts" (she doesn't bother me). Also use a tap and die to finish cleaning the threads.
As to the paint/primer, everyone I talked to recommended DuPont self-etching VariPrime (615S and 620S). It costs about $130 for a gallon of primer and reducer. (Don't tell my wife or she'll be "cleaning my nuts".) Merry Christmas to all you other PW guys/gals.
