Methylene chloride is an anesthetic and carcinogenic among other things, so use it in a very well ventilated place. Another caution about using methylene chloride is that it reacts with aluminum to produce phosgene gas (the same stuff used in WWI to kill thousands of troops), so be extremely cautious with it and aluminum. Caustic materials also react with aluminum and will eat up the aluminum while producing hydrogen gas. All this should give you a warm and fuzzy feeling about using paint strippers (ha ha). Bottom line is that most paint strippers are either very nasty, or they don't work very well. Always read the directions and MSDS sheets thoroughly and follow instructions fully. That stuff will kill you, sometimes after a long period of time and in a very unpleasant manner.
