In the 1980,s Chrysler bought into the French companies Renault and Peugeot. I believe this is where these diesels originated. They are probably a good performing unit fairly reliable but the crunch comes when you want to get parts. Peugeot manufactures them and adds their mark-up to Chrysler then they make a profit on you. = expensive parts that U.S.A dealers do not want to stock because it ties up too much money for small market. Parts will be expensive and hard to find. Phone your local dealer and ask him how much $ and what is the wait time for a starter for this unit.
An interesting diesel for a pw is the 5 cylinder unit in Mercedes 300D and TD. A lot of these cars were imported in the 70's and 80's. They are very reliable engines but the cars rusted badly. You should be able to buy a whole rusted car for under $1000. They also made a 240D which is a 4 cylinder.
Good luck.
