Not everybody's a computer whiz. I'd rather have an ebay item number that works than several unsuccessful attempts to make a clickable link, which is what often happens. Besides, I'll bet some savvy computer jockey (maybe you?) would write a Mozilla plugin that goes directly from highlighted text to the corresponding ebay item, sort of like they do with the right-click google search feature.
