Shocking...

Most of us have been bit by high voltage off the distributor cap or plug wire at some point. It bites hard enough that you don’t want to repeat the lesson, but doesn’t do any permanent damage unless you are unfortunate enough to find sharp objects as you jump back.

I’m experiencing a similar shock from my small sandblasting cabinet when I use it. Static electricity builds up and develops a charge high enough to jump through the blasting gloves, or worse yet, direct to my chin as I’m leaning over the window. It’s near the level of shock a plug wire will deliver and it re-charges quickly! It’s good for a zap every couple seconds.

I’ve tried to ground the cabinet with a piece of wire run to the back of a freezer we have in the garage (my logic being the freezer has an earth ground) but it didn’t help at all. I dread using the thing at this point… do I need a ground strap from myself to the cabinet to try and keep our relative charges the same, or is there some effective way to stop this.

Open to ideas…
