My only experience with stitching is on the 292 in my grandfather's 67 Chevy 1/2-ton. It has about a 2" crack in the water jacket well below the top which my dad had stitched when he got the truck in the late 70s. It has not gotten any worse, but it has never stayed sealed either. I find it starts leaking quite a bit and I have to put a bottle of bars leak in it about every 5 years. Since the bars leak seems to hold for that long, I'm satistfied with the "fix", but wouldn't trust "stitching" if I was rebuilding an engine and wanted it to be good for a long time.
