There are outfits all around the country that buy wrecked and worn-out rolling stock from the railroads. When I looked into it about 10 years ago, I could get the bed of a 40' flatcar for $3000 delivered. The longest they had was 90'. Some have decking and some don't. I gave up on the idea because my creek is 100' wide and the road into it is too crooked to get even a lowboy logging trailer down it. But for a place where you have access with machinery, nothing can come close to used flatcars for strength and cheapness.

I ended up buying the M35s figuring they'd cost far less than constructing a bridge, didn't require any permits and approvals (try building anything in a creek these days), and could haul all the heavy stuff through the creek except during the highest floods. I built a small log footbridge for when I don't need to haul anything.
